Rheumatology deals with joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases and heritable connective tissue disorders. A rheumatologist is a specialist doctor who diagnoses and treats: arthritis – where joints are painful, swollen and stiff. Other musculoskeletal conditions - which affect bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments as well as joints.

Rheumatic diseases can affect virtually any part of the body. They are usually associated with inflammation (swelling and redness), almost always accompanied by pain and have symptoms that can have a profound effect on the ability to perform daily activities.
