Dr. Amresh Baliarsing

Dr. Amresh Baliarsing, MCh, DNB is a consultant plastic surgeon working at the PD Hinduja Hospital, Bombay Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital.  He was Former Professor and Head, Department of Plastic Surgery, BYL Nair Charitable Hospital and Chairman, Board of Studies, Super Specialty Surgery and Member, Faculty of Medicine, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, President, Indian Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery(2019) and President, Association of Plastic Surgeons of India(2018).

He completed the MCh plastic surgery training from the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi in 1993 and subsequently passed the Diplomate of National Board examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. After his training he had the opportunity to work in different capacities at the LTMG Hospital, KEM Hospital and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. He had advanced clinical fellowship training for one year each in Faciomaxillary surgery, microsurgery, breast reconstruction, aesthetic surgery at the National University Hospital, Singapore, hand surgery, microsurgery and brachial plexus surgery at the Ogori Daiichi General Hospital, Ogori, Japan and the CM Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery, Louisville, USA.

He has delivered the Dr. J. L. Gupta Oration awarded by the Society for Wound Care and Research for achieving outstanding contribution in the field of wound care and research and JIPMER Sushruta Oration awarded by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry for teaching and training in plastic surgery. He was felicitated by the National Medicos Organisation for creating awareness and performing the first successful bilateral hand transplant in west zone of India. He is recipient of  Ethicon Visiting Professor of Plastic surgery and Microsurgery by the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India and the best poster award at the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery Conference.  Other fellowships and awards are best paper presentation, national and international travelling fellowship by the plastic surgery association, advanced training fellowships at various prestigious international institutes and ICMR fellowship for developing a new protocol for treatment of leprous neuritis.

In addition to routine plastic surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery, he does specialized work in mandible reconstruction, lower limb reconstruction and breast reconstruction, facial plastic surgery and diabetic foot ulcer management.
