Description

Surgical oncology involves treatment of cancer with a surgical procedure in which a surgeon removes the cancer from the patient’s body. The surgical oncology department has a team of qualified and trained surgical oncologists, each specialized for every part / system of the body that is prone to cancer, like uro-oncologist, breast oncologist, gastro-oncologist etc. All types of cancer surgeries are done as per international standard in the state-of-art operation theatres. The surgical team is backed by a well equipped postoperative intensive care unit for smooth recovery of all patients. The surgeons have a close liaison with the medical and radiation oncology department and work as a team. The patient and family members benefit from a strong social support group of volunteers attached to this institute.

Types of Surgery:

  • Open Surgery:

    Open surgery is the regular surgery were in a regular incision is done at the site of operation and the procedure is carried out.

  • Key Hole Surgery (MIS):

    Minimally invasive surgery limits the size of surgical incisions needed so that the blood loss, wound healing time, associated pain and scarring, hospitalization time, risk of infection, and postsurgical complications are usually much less.
    Imaging techniques like arthroscopic or laparoscopic techniques and radiologists, surgeons are able to diagnose, identify internal features, and perform surgical procedures with very small incisions.

  • Robotic Surgery: Surgeries that would require cutting open of the areas too are treated with key hole surgeries using Robotic System. The common surgeries include, surgeries of GI tract, head and neck, gynec, prostrate, appendix.

Dr. Saneya Pandrowala

Dr. Saneya Pandrowala has completed her MBBS and M.S. General Surgery from Seth G.S Medical College and KEM Hospital Mumbai following which she went on to pursue M.Ch. in Surgical Oncology from the esteemed Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai.

She has received dedicated training at Tata Memorial hospital in HPB surgical oncology including complex cases requiring vascular and multiorgan resections as well as minimally invasive colorectal oncology cases.

  • After completing his MBBS and MS General Surgery in India, Dr. Banerjee continued training at other illustrious institutes (Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi and P. D. Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai), where he gained considerable experience in treating the entire spectrum of gastro-intestinal and hepato-biliary-pancreatic disorders. Following this, he moved abroad for further intensive training.
