Highlights
Description
  • The Institutional Ethics Committee, IEC is registered with Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation [CDSCO] and has been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospital & Healthcare Providers [NABH]. The committee is also provisionally registered with Department of Health Research [DHR], MOHFW, GOI.
  • IEC and IEC-II are recognized by Office for Human Research Protections [OHRP], USA.
  • PDHMRC is affiliated with Mumbai University for MSc & PhD (by Research) in Applied Biology since 1993.
  • Signed a Letter of Intent with The Division of AIDS (NIAID, NIH) to establish a centre of excellence for infectious disease research in India and address the growing burden of infectious diseases like TB and HIV in 2019 . The LOI facilitated strengthening of clinical research capabilities in India through concerted training and research activities.
  • In January 2012, Dr. Zarir Udwadia, Consultant, Chest Physician and Dr. Camilla Rodrigues, Consultant Microbiologist at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC after extensive research on TB patients published a research paper on 12 TB patients to be resistant to most anti TB drugs. The report resulted in a major restructuring of the National TB Control Program in Maharashtra state and Bombay Municipal Corporation to enhance case detection. The hospital has truly championed the cause of TB through research and in reaching out to poor on one side and influencing the policy holders on the other.
  • HH-IDAIR collaboration: Under this Indo-Swiss collaboration, a project titled “Role of nutrition Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome: using novel tools such as AI to analyse micronarratives and digital diary analysis” is being developed.
  • The hospital is a part of “Regional Prospective Observational Research for Tuberculosis” (RePORT) India, a pan-India study. The Phase I which is the parent protocol is ongoing and we have now moved to Phase II Common Protocol involving sites across India."
  • Solidarity trials: Hinduja participated in the original multi-centric WHO sponsored trial and is now in the process of regulatory review of the phase II of this trial titled “Solidarity PLUS”.
  • P. D. Hinduja Hospital along with Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and KEM Hospital and Research Center, Pune with funding by Hinduja Foundation started a research cum treatment project on type 1 diabetes patients [T1DI study] in November 2019. Since May 2020 the project has enrolled more than 550+ T1D patients across the 3 centres. The T1DI project enrols Type 1 diabetes patients who are under 18 years of age and who come from financially weaker sections. These patients are provided free treatment for 5 years, which includes regular consultation by endocrinologists, ophthalmologists and diabetes foot specialist. Patients are also being provided free lab tests, insulin and glucometers. Patients enrolled in all 3 centres have shown a marked improvement in HbA1C levels. Dr. Phulrenu Chauhan, Consultant Endocrinologist at P. D. Hinduja Hospital heads the project at Hinduja hospital. P.D. Hinduja Hospital has also been collaborating with ICMR for periodic research on Diabetes in Young adults since 2009.
  • Research department has finalized an online Research Methodology Training Workshop involving five module of 2 sessions each to be spaced out over 5 weeks. As Maharashtra Medical Council [MMC] provided accreditation and granted 1 credit point per module [total 5 CME points for the workshop attendees and faculty], we propose to conduct this as a periodic training activity.
  • The hospital and research department has recently established a collaboration with Institute of Clinical Research India [ICRI] and is a site for courses on Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Research [PGDACR] [10 months] and Post Graduate Diploma In Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Data Management [PGDPVDM] [6 months] of ICRI.
