A professional overview of Dr. Vrajesh Udani, an American-trained Child Neurologist and Epileptologist.
He has been at Hinduja Hospital for 35 years, where he runs a comprehensive epilepsy program primarily focused on pediatric epilepsy surgery.
The program utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and includes a ketogenic diet program run with a colleague.
He leads a multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery team comprising a neurosurgeon, radiology specialists, nuclear imaging specialists, and a neuropsychologist.
Since 1998, this team has held regular epilepsy surgical conferences to determine patient candidacy for surgery using various diagnostic investigations and has performed several hundred surgeries.
He is involved with the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and its medical treatment subcommittee, contributing to several consensus statements on epilepsy treatment.
His research also focuses on epilepsy and developmental issues stemming from neonatal or perinatal brain injury, specifically hypoglycemic brain injury, raising awareness among pediatricians.
Dr. Udani's other interests also include neuroimmunology, particularly childhood CNS autoimmune disorders, and has been part of international consensus.
He also is the lead of the Hinduja development clinic where multiple specialties like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychologists and counselors deal with the myriad developmental problems in the pediatric age group
