Professional Experience and Training

Professional Experience

Dr. Pinto is a proponent of collaborative self-management for chronic respiratory diseases, and works toward empowering patients to best manage their illnesses in collaboration with their physicians. He believes strongly in preventive medicine, and reducing the need for hospitalizations in chronic respiratory illnesses is a focus of his practice of respiratory medicine.

He specializes in helping individuals give up smoking, and in the treatment of sleep apnea, insomnia, and other sleep-related disorders, with the aim of preventing complications such as high blood pressure and heart disease, that are often a consequence of such disorders.

He also specializes in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, or emphysema), a disease that is often a late consequence of smoking, and is presently the fourth leading cause of death in the world.

He is passionate about treating tuberculosis (in all its forms, including drug-resistant TB), a disease that is highly prevalent, and often misdiagnosed and treated inappropriately in India.

He trained at McGill University, which is at the forefront of respiratory medicine, and continues to collaborate with the university for research and academic pursuits.
