Professional Experience
- Dr. Devendra Desai is presently working as Consultant in Gastroenterology at P. D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre.
- He started an “Inflammatory Bowel Disease clinic” at P D Hinduja Hospital in 2004 August and a patient support group called “Colitis Association of India” in March 2005.
- In 2002, he attended Birmingham University liver unit as a visiting doctor for 5 weeks. In 2005 May, he attended Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA for 3 weeks as an observer in inflammatory bowel disease.
- He conducts a charity camp in Gastroenterology once a year since 1997 at Shahada, Nandurbar district.
He also got selected for Common Wealth Scholarship and worked in Polyposis Registry at St Mark’s Hospital, London from 5th January to 18th December 1994. During this period he worked on a research project “Phenotypic features in Juvenile Polyposis”. After that he worked in Dynburn Hospital in Durham till July 1995. In August, he joined as a Consultant in Gastroenterology at P. D. Hinduja National Hospital, Mumbai.He joined in Gastroenterology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay in 1988 and worked as a Junior and Senior Resident, Research Fellow and Pool Officer. He appeared for DNB in Gastroenterology in 1992. After passing DNB in Gastroenterology he worked in LTM Medical College as a Lecturer in Gastroenterology.His medical training started in 1978 in Grant Medical School and J. J. Hospital, Bombay and he graduated in 1983. He joined his postgraduate training in General Medicine in 1984. After his MD he worked as a registrar in Medicine and Intensive Care Unit at Hinduja Hospital for 7 months.

- Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI) award for the best paper presentation for the paper “Tracheo-oesophageal fistulae after Savary Gilliard dilatation of post-radiation strictures: an analysis of contributory factors” at the Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology in 1992.
- Second author of the poster, which received prize “Dilation of difficult esophageal strictures using modifications of the technique” at the Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology in 1992.
- Selected for Commonwealth Scholarship for the year 1993 – 94 for research on Polyposis.
- Nominated for the award of “Young Clinical Investigator” by the Indian Society of Gastroenterology in 1995
- Received award for best paper presentation on Transnasal Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy at the annual conference of Indian Society of Gastroenterology in 2003, Chennai
- Award for the poster at the ISG meeting at Vishakhapattanam in 2005
- ISG Fellowship for paper presentation at Asia Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) at Cebu, Philippines in 2006.
